The explosion

A hundred years ago a lighthouse keeper called Leon and his pet hamster called pip lived at Happisburgh lighthouse. It was usual day at the lighthouse cleaning the windows. Well not Pip the hamster he was just rolling around in his ball.

One day Leon was cleaning the light and something happened. The clouds started to gather and the waves got greater. Also the wind blew harder.  A horrendous storm came. Leon turned the light on. When they went downstairs it went off. A steamship was coming that way. It hit the rocks and exploded. It nearly hit the cliff. Pip and Leon rushed down to the cellar and made some gas. Now they could turn the light on so the fire boats could see it. They put it out. Leon ad Pip saved the day. That is why Happisburgh lighthouse is quite famous. After that they lived happily.

The troubles of a lighthouse keeper

Never before or after there lived a man called Old Jack the lighthouse keeper. The lighthouse was about a mile out to sea. It was painted blue and white. In the middle of each white stripe was a row of five black dots. Old Jack had two daughters one called Alice aged 10 she wanted to be an artist. The second was called Ella. She lived on the island called Willow Tree for eight years but with the sudden death of their mother she was forced to start a new life with her sister and father in a lighthouse cottage with only two rooms, kitchen and a small family room.

Then on month the lighthouse ran out of coal and if that was not bad enough the bulb cracked.

One day in early spring Old Jack feel sick. “Girls save the lighthouse. Don’t worry about me I will go to God” mumbled Old Jack. After a couple of weeks a great storm came. The next morning there were 20 odd shipwrecks and 100 sailors injured. Alice and Ella had to get the sailors to land. The only transport was a rowing boat. After an hour of rowing all the sailors were on land. Their reward was coal all year round. Old Jack was not sick after a trip to the hospital. People say that the black dots show what happened on 25th May 1862.

The broken lighthouse

One hundred years ago there was a lighthouse keeper called Ed who lived at Happisburgh lighthouse. Ed was a brave old man who enjoyed adventure and rowing his boat to the lighthouse. Everyday he would get up and feed his dog Bob then Ed would have breakfast and go to the lighthouse. Then one night the lighthouse wasn’t working so a ship full of food smashed into the sandbanks so there was no food. The next day it happened again so there was no food again and it continued. Everyone started to starve and they had eaten everything they had. Ed decided he’d go fishing and bring back enough for the whole village to have a big feast but they would fix the lighthouse first. He went fishing but had trouble. The big storm dog would not let them by. Suddenly it let Ed past and he caught tons of fish. When he got back to the village everyone was cheering. Then Ed asked a favour if they would fix the light house so they did. Soon everyone was not starving. Ed became the most popular in the village.
