Evidence
For thousands of years people believed the earth didn't rotate
and it was flat. And why not? Seems a perfectly good belief. Even today
we talk about 'the ground being flat', we might use a spirit level to
make sure something is horizontal.
Builders these days use a laser spirit level to make sure everything is flat.
They also believed that the moon crossed the sky by night and
the sun crossed the sky by day!
All of that was covered by a blanket called the 'Firmament' and the stars
shone through the holes in the blanket.
So for them the Earth was flat.
I wonder what evidence they used to come to this conclusion.
Well you've only got to look out of the window and your senses tell you the ground is flat.
This is called
DIRECT EVIDENCE
of the
SENSES
The earth couldn't possibly be round, like a ball, because people on the bottom of the world would fall off or least be walking upside down.
Was this good Scientific Evidence? Can you always trust Direct Evidence?

It's fascinating. An astronaut looking out of a space craft window can rely on direct evidence?
