Raptors

Birds of Prey that use their talons to catch their prey.

Common Buzzard

Quite a lazy but beautiful creature really. Would much prefer to eat roadkill than catch its own prey.

Kestrel

A very delicate little bird that can hover when looking for its prey. It can also see ultraviolet light. Which is very helpful when searching for its' prey because the prey's wee gives off a phosphorescent glow.

It has incredibly sharp eyesight. it can see a 2mm ant from 16m away.

Tawny Owl

The Tawny Owl hunts at night largely by sound. Its eyes are no better at seeing in the dark than ours are. Its feathers are so soft that it has silent flight so it doesn't scare its prey away.

Barn Owl

As with all owls the facial disc concentrates the sound to the ears and any available light to the eyes.

African Scops Owl

The orange in the eye tells you that the bird is crepuscular hunter. ( It hunts at dusk and dawn)

The size of the feet give yu a clue as to the size of the prey the bird can catch.

In this case the largest would be a rabbit.

Harris Hawk

African Eagle Owl
