Who were the Tudors?

There was Civil War between two families to see who would rule England.

1455 - 1487
It was called 'The Wars of the Roses' because each family had a rose for a badge. The Lancastrians a red rose, the Yorkists a white.
By the time the war was finished someone who was descended from the Lancastrians had married a Yorkist and a new dynasty had begun.

The House of Tudor

Henry, descended from the Lancastrians (although his father was Edward Tudor), defeated Richard III ( a Yorkist) at the

Battle of Bosworth in 1485.

He was crowned King and married
Elizabeth of York in 1486.

And so the

began.

A long line of Tudor Monarchs
then ruled England from 1485 - 1603

Henry VII

Henry VIII

Edward VI
